Thing’s don’t always go as expected.

So yesterday I went to help out at an Ultra I was originally supposed to run (before tearing both my soleus). I went to take photo’s and cheer on my fellow runners and friends.
By the end of the race I helped perform CPR on a man that didn’t make it. The race went well for most people the winner shattereed his previous course record by 10 minutes. A little while late a four time finisher came across the line asked for water and collapsed. Cpr had already been started when I arrived. I took over chest compressions while other’s were on the phone with EMS. As I started to get tired another runner took over we worked on him till the EMT’s got there. I figured he was gone but held out hope. They defifibed him multiple times and nothing. The ambulance took him away (none of us knowing his fate) and we tried to continue the race day as normal as possible. I did not know this gentleman but what happened yesterday will stick with me probably the rest of my life.
You really do have to live each day as it’s your last. This man died 3 minutes after I took his photo and he seemed so happy and healthy. You just never know.

Making the jump

So I have only been running for 3 years and my furthest race has been a half marathon. That being said my determination is larger than my brain..
I have a half in November
Then a 50K in December
I also got invited to attempt a 100k in January
I’m going to do them all, will I succeed I’m not sure. What I am sure of is that I will get out there and bust my ass if I have to tap out I will. Yeah I’m writing this on the one year anniversary of getting a heart stent. So yeah never let anyone tell you not to try something
worst case scenario, you fail, learn from it and try again.

Hoka speed instinct review

So I have been waiting weeks to get my hands on these new Hoka trail shoes. I took em ¬†out for a quick trail run this morning. I have to say they are some of the most comfortable Hoka’s I’ve ever worn. The 3mm drop is perfect for me, the shoe is responsive and cushioned at the same time. The lugs aren’t huge but they are more than adequate. The shoe is pretty light and feels fast on your feet. It does seem to soak up every bit of water it touches… But hey that’s life in Florida. All in all a solid shoe I currently would give it an 8 out of 10.

Trail running

Trail running is my love. It brings challenges and focus that are very different from road running. I did a swampstomp Sunday. Here is a pick of me running through “interesting” conditions.13770436_10210240392915107_1802637195436950725_n

Personal Trainers

So how much does or a should a personal trainers physical appearance affect your decision to train with them. I am not an Adonis but I know what I am doing and how to get results. I am NOT a pretty boy nor would I ever want to be, I have lived the life of a fat man for 99% of my life. With that being said will any of that matter to my clients? Should it? Would you rather train with someone who can actually relate to your struggles. Or with someone who is pleasant to look at and won the genetic lottery. I’m not saying that the pre conceived notion of how a trainer looks is a bad thing. More so that pre conceived notions are a bad thing. If you saw my before and after (done solely by me) would you hire me? Replies are appreciated.12662468_10208798961120213_4585763578420156125_n
